Gibson Thunderbird IV

A ’93 Gibson Thunderbird with custom black pickguard, Hipshot Trutone bridge and Hipshot Xtender.

The Thunderbird is the ‘classic’ rock bass guitar in my opinion.  The first time I saw one being played live was with Pete Way back in the early ‘80s and since then I was hooked.

More than any other bass, you strap a Thunderbird on and some of it’s rock ‘n roll rubs off on you.  Sure it’s not the easiest bass to play, but once you get used to the balance, the neck is fast and the sound is unparalleled.  It sounds great with either a pick or your fingers.

You can mention Thunderbird without tipping your hat to the late and great John Entwistle
